Summer Camps Roundup

Both Camp Monte Stella and Discovery Hills were a huge success thanks to the teamwork of everyone involved. Last fall, the camp board began working with the lead staff to review and develop  activities. In January preparations began with the lead team and counselors. There were work sessions and several zoom meetings and orientations throughout the spring. As the camp dates approached, many moms (and some dads) worked on the final logistical preparations so that everything and everyone was ready to welcome new and returning campers. The smiles of girls of all ages, eager to learn untried skills and make new friends, were contagious.

There were over seventy girls and twenty counselors attending Monte Stella (June 18-23) in a site overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Campers and counselors bonded through sports, crafts, theater and dance. The day included possibilities of attending Mass, participating in an interactive class on faith and cultivation of virtues. The counselors prepared each class and activity so they would be interesting, relevant and fun. They also had their own classes and discussions on faith and virtuous leadership. While coastal fog drifted in and out, there were spectacular sunsets on the beach and on one evening, a campfire. There was the traditional show on the last day of camp, exchanges of addresses and farewells, and the anticipation of seeing friends and counselors again during the school year at the girls clubs in their area.

Discovery Hills Day Camp began on July 1. Several Monte Stella counselors returned to assist with this program designed for younger girls. Many moms also volunteered their time, assisting with activities, snack preparations and set up of activities. They were also able to attend a talk and discussion on cultivating virtues that contribute to a deep faith-filled family life.

Check in regularly at the Discovery Hills website here and Monte Stella website here for pictures, updates and information for how you can be part of their camp experience in 2025. In the meantime girls clubs will resume activities in September and October and you can look for a girls club here in your area.
