ChallengeHer Serves

ChallengeHer Serves is a service program for high school girls that meets one Saturday each month of the fall semester and culminates in a Service Weekend in Salinas over Martin Luther King weekend. 

Each meeting involves participating in a service activity in the community and a talk about the principles of the Catholic Church’s social doctrine.

In September and October, there will be afternoons of recollection for high school girls at Charwick following CHer Serves that the girls are welcome to attend. 

2024-2025 Schedule

This year the program dates are:

Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, 8 am – 12:30 pm:  We will be working at a food distribution center in Mountain View, packing food and loading it into cars of families in need as they drive through the distribution area.  Some girls may be needed to help translate Chinese and/or Spanish in the walk-through zone.  Additional details will be given to registrants.

Saturday, Oct. 12, 9 am-1 pm:  Work in San Jose preparing food for a lunch meal for those in need and/or packing food for the Mobile Food Pantries of CityTeam.

Saturday, Nov. 16, 9 am – 12 pm:  Work at a domestic shelter for women in Oakland, helping with the ‘Double Scrub’ of the shelter and possibly gardening, weather-permitting.

Saturday, Dec. 7, Time TBA:  Visit with elderly and spread Christmas cheer at an assisted living facility in Redwood City.
(No Recollection for High School girls in December)

Friday, 6 pm, January 17 – Sunday, January 19, 2025:  Service Weekend in Salinas/Monterey over Martin Luther King weekend.  We will be staying in Carmel Valley while working in a soup kitchen in Salinas on Saturday and a food pantry in Monterey on Sunday.

Cost:  $200, which covers all shared expenses of the program, lunches and the cost of travel and lodging to the Service Weekend.

All high school girls are welcome to apply!
